The Flow Hive has revolutionised backyard beekeeping and opened up beekeeping to enthusiasts around the world. This three-hour workshop is designed for beginners to beekeeping who are thinking about getting a Flow Hive, or have one sitting in their garage unassembled and don't know where to start.

In small groups of up to 10 people, you’ll enjoy this Flow  Hive specific practical Beginner Beekeeping Workshop for 3 hours at one of our own apiaries at the beautiful Rivers of Yarrambat (Just 28km NE Melbourne VIC).

  • Best practices and essential know-how as a Beekeeper
  • Comparison of the different flow hive models and how the flow frames work 
  • Essential Beekeeping Equipment 
  • Selecting and setting up a suitable location 
  • How to conduct an inspection and identify different elements of a beehive 
  • How to get your first bees
  • Learn to get delicious raw honey straight from the hive using a Flow Hive
  • Seasonal Considerations

You'll gain practical hands-on experience as you suit up and join Nathan (a Certified Flow Hive Ambassador) as he guides you through several flow hive inspections in our apiary. 

You'll walk away with enough information and experience to confidently start your beekeeping journey. 

Our Flow Hive specific Beekeeping Workshop includes a tea or coffee on arrival and a delicious lunch served with refreshing honey tonics. You’ll also have the opportunity to taste some raw honey direct from our hives.

  • 9.15 am - 10.00 am - Beginner Beekeeping Foundation Knowledge & Flow Hive Demonstration
  • 10.00 am - 11:30 am - Working the Hives: Suiting up and doing Multiple Hive Inspections together, Flow Hive Honey Harvest (when possible)
  • 11:30 am-12:00 pm - Complimentary Lunch provided and open Q&A Session with Nathan

About your Instructors

Nathan Stewart is a full-time dedicated Beekeeping instructor based in Melbourne, Australia and is a Certified Flow Hive Ambassador.

Each year, Nathan helps over 200+ Beginner Beekeepers to get a strong confident start. 

For Nathan, beekeeping is more than just a hobby gone wild, it's a passion. Beekeeping puts him more in touch with nature, his local community and genuinely helps him to de-stress and be a happier version of himself.
